It is the largest Marian sanctuary in the world. The Roman Catholic church and national sanctuary in Mexico City is visited by 12 million pilgrims annually. The attention of pilgrims and tourists is drawn to the architecture of the basilica, which resembles a desert tent, almost identical to the Mosaic tent, which was erected at the foot of Mount Sinai. The creators of the temple, using symbolism, placed a cross on its top, the base of which is the letter M, denoting words important to this place, i.e. Mary and Mexico. The current basilica has four towers, a 42-meter high dome and can accommodate up to 50 people. As many as 62 tons of silver were used to make the decorations on the church altar. The cult image of Mary refers to ancient Aztec traditions. The supernatural feature of the image of Mary is considered to be the fact that when measured, the temperature of the image is the same as the heat of a living person, i.e. equal to 36,6 degrees! Since 1999, the Blessed Virgin Mary of Guadalupe has been venerated as the Patroness of the Americas.

Oaxaca is the cultural capital of Mexico - this is where the most important festivals take place, and the local food and alcohol are considered gourmet throughout the country. Here, too, we will meet ethnic groups speaking 16 different languages. Also, access to both the mountains and the coast of the Pacific Ocean with heavenly beaches and the highest waves in the world will make you not want to return home, and many will call it their paradise.
Oaxaca City is one of the best places to sample Mexican cuisine with local white cheese and witness the authenticity and spirit of Mexico. In the state of Oaxaca, we can find historical and cultural places that European tourists, and often Mexicans themselves, have no idea about. One of them is la Virgen de Juquila, which, simply put, is the southern equivalent of Santa Virgen de Guadalupe, and is located in the town of Santa Catarina Juquila in the state of Oaxaca. She is the patron saint of the state, in whose honor the town was also named, where, according to believers, miracles take place. The city was founded in the 13th century by the Mistec Indians, but it was only five hundred years later that the place became significant in Oaxacan culture. Tequila is the name of an alcohol known all over the world and takes its name from the town in the state of Jalisco from which it comes. This is another point on the map that is part of the unique list of "pueblos mágicos", and the charming colorful streets make us feel like we are in a fairy-tale land. Tequila is also worth visiting because of the opportunity to learn about the production process of this drink, and distillery tours are offered by many well-known companies producing this alcohol. An interesting fact is that tequila began to be produced over 500 years ago. Today, it is a registered brand, and the blue agave needed to produce this alcohol can only come from selected states of Mexico. Visiting this town is certainly a wonderful and unique experience.
13. San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas
There is a certain town called San Cristobal de las Casas that is enchanted. The city located in the charming state of Chiapas is one of the 121 "pueblos mágicos", i.e. magical towns of Mexico. The idea to create this list was initiated by the Mexican government, and their number is constantly growing. San Cristobal de Las Casas takes its name from a Dominican bishop who fought for the rights of Indians during the conquest, and there are the largest number of Indians here in the entire country. This is one of the most beautiful and photogenic places in Mexico.
