Time + Tide Mchenja is an intimate, luxurious safari lodge located in South Luangwa National Park in eastern Zambia. It lies directly on the Luangwa River, shaded by ancient eben trees, from which it takes its name. This place is valued for its exceptionally wild atmosphere, proximity to animals, and high standards while maintaining the camp's natural character.
The lodge is open seasonally, typically from mid-May to mid-November. This period coincides with the dry season, when the river levels recede and animals gather around its banks, providing excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. Outside of this season, the camp is closed due to the rainy season.
Time + Tide Mchenja is small and very intimate. It offers five high-standard tented rooms. Four of these are designed for couples, and one is a larger family tent with two bedrooms. Each room has a private bathroom, often partially open-air, and a terrace overlooking the river, allowing you to observe the animals without even leaving the tent.
The area around the lodge is considered one of the best safari areas in Zambia and all of Africa. Elephants, buffalo, hippos, and crocodiles inhabiting the Luangwa River are common sightings. South Luangwa National Park is also famous for its large leopard population and regular lion sightings. Numerous antelopes, zebras, giraffes, and baboons can be found in the area, and the region is also exceptionally rich in birdlife. Safaris are conducted both in off-road vehicles and on foot, as it was here that the idea of walking safaris originated.
Getting to Time + Tide Mchenja involves several stages. First, you fly into Zambia, usually to Lusaka, and then take a domestic flight to Mfuwe Airport, which serves South Luangwa National Park. From the airport, guests are picked up by lodge staff and transported by 4WD to the camp. The drive takes about two and a half hours and often represents a first safari experience, as the route passes through areas inhabited by wildlife.
Time + Tide Mchenja is a lodge designed for those seeking tranquility, authentic contact with nature and a high-quality safari in Zambia, away from mass tourism.
