Trip to Greenland

Greenland is a Danish autonomous territory located in the northern Arctic Circle, bordering Canada to the west and Iceland to the east. Located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Arctic Ocean, it is the largest island in the world and a unique travel destination.

Greenland – what to see?

Greenland is, above all, an ice sheet stretching over over 80% of the area, which is breathtaking with its majesty, harsh environment, ubiquitous whiteness and difference from what we see every day.

The capital of the island is a small town, Nuuk, which, due to its intimate atmosphere and similar architecture of colorful wooden houses, differs significantly from the largest European capitals, but on the other hand is the most developed city in all of Greenland. Here you can learn about the island's extremely interesting history and traditions, as well as go on a cruise, a scenic flight or an Arctic safari.

However, you fly to Greenland to experience its unique natural environment. Its central-western shore is extremely rich in attractions of this type. It is also there, although in a very small town inhabited by only a few hundred people, that the largest airport, Kangerlussuaq, is located. Its surroundings are largely a delightful nature reserve and a beautiful valley, densely inhabited by musk oxen and rich in waterfalls and river corridors.

A little north, in the picturesque Disko Bay, is the UNESCO World Heritage Site Ilulissat Ice Fjord. The waters there are fed by one of the most active glaciers, Sermeq Kujalleq, which not only moves at a speed of about 19 m per day, but also probably creates the most icebergs in all of Greenland. Apparently, it was from this glacier that a large block of ice broke away, which was the cause of the Titanic tragedy. There are also beautiful blue lakes and high waterfalls on the coast, whose sweet, crystal-clear water tastes like nowhere else in the world. No wonder that Disko Bay also welcomes numerous species of whales.

On the north-eastern tip of the island, on an area over three times the size of Poland, there is the Greenland National Park, famous for being the largest national park in the world, also included on the UNESCO list of biosphere reserves. There you can admire not only breathtaking landscapes, but also meet many species of polar animals.

When to go to Greenland?

It is best to go to Greenland in the summer, because it is much warmer there than in the winter months, and nature comes back to life to add some color to the Arctic areas, at least for some time. It is also the best time to admire fin and humpback whales diving deep into Greenland's bays.

Although it certainly requires warm clothes, humility and patience, a trip to Greenland is not impossible, especially not with a travel agency. CARTER®. Our unique ways of exploring the island will make you appreciate its charm in its full glory, regardless of weather difficulties and harsh conditions.
