Trips to Peru – journeys in the footsteps of the Incas and Amazonian nature

We invite all adventure seekers to Peru – a country of extraordinary landscapes, fascinating history, and one of the richest cultures in South America. For years, trips to Peru have attracted travelers from around the world who want to see Machu Picchu, the Amazon jungle, and the colonial cities listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Peru is almost four times the size of Poland, and its diverse terrain means that in a single trip you can see the desert coast of the Pacific, the snow-capped peaks of the Andes, and the tropical rainforest of the Amazon. This means that trips to Peru offer a huge variety of experiences—from visiting the ruins of Inca cities, to mountain trekking, to expeditions into the Amazon jungle.

Many travel programs also combine trips to Peru with Galapagos cruises or Galapagos tours, creating one of the most unique travel itineraries in South America.

The most important information about Peru

Capital: Lima
Official language: Spanish (in some regions also Quechua and Aymara)

When is the best time to plan a trip to Peru?

The best time to travel to Peru is during the dry season, which runs from May to September. This period offers the best conditions for trekking in the Andes and exploring the country's main attractions.

However, the tourist season lasts year-round, as Peru has several climate zones. This means that even during other months, you can comfortably explore the Pacific coast, the Amazon jungle, or colonial cities.

What is worth seeing during a trip to Peru?

Due to its topography, Peru can be divided into three main tourist regions: Costa, Sierra, and Selva. Each offers completely different experiences and landscapes.

Costa – the desert coast and capital of Peru

Costa is a desert region located on the Pacific Ocean. It is home to Lima, the country's capital, known for its excellent cuisine and numerous colonial monuments.

One of the popular attractions are the islands Islas Ballestas, often called the "Little Galapagos." Here, you can observe colonies of sea lions, seals, and numerous species of seabirds. The desert plateau of Nazca is home to the famous Nazca Lines—massive geoglyphs visible only from above.

Sierra – the Andes and the most important Inca monuments

The Sierra region encompasses the Andes and high plateaus. It is here that you'll find the most famous destinations on trips to Peru.

The most important ones include:

Machu Picchu – the symbol of Peru

Machu Picchu is one of South America's most recognizable attractions and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The ruins can be reached by trekking along the Inca Trail or by train from Cusco.

Cusco – the former capital of the Incas

For centuries, Cusco was the center of the Inca Empire. Today, it impresses with its colonial architecture, stone walls, and numerous monuments. Key sites include the Plaza de Armas, Sacsayhuamán, and the Qorikancha Temple.

Sacred Valley of the Incas

The Urubamba River Valley is a picturesque region dotted with Inca ruins and traditional villages, including Pisac and Ollantaytambo.

Lake Titicaca

Situated at an altitude of over 3800 meters above sea level, Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world. It is home to the famous floating islands of the Uros, made of reeds.

Colca Canyon

The Colca Canyon is one of the deepest canyons in the world. It is also one of the best places to observe Andean condors.

Selva – the Amazon jungle

The Selva region encompasses vast areas of the Amazon. It is one of the most biodiverse areas in the world.

During expeditions to the Amazon jungle, you can see capybaras, toucans, parrots, caimans, and sloths, among others. Popular starting points for expeditions are cities Iquitos and Puerto Maldonado.

Cruises on the Amazon and its river basins also depart from the area around Nauta, allowing you to discover the wildest corners of the region.

Increasingly, trips to Peru are being combined with other South American destinations. A popular option is a trip combining Peru with a cruise to the Galapagos Islands, which allows visitors to see both the monuments of the Inca civilization and the unique wildlife of the Galapagos archipelago.
