Belmond Andean Explorer – a luxury journey through the Andes

The Belmond Andean Explorer, the first train in South America to offer exclusive sleeper cabins, takes you through the majestic landscapes of the Andes, along some of the highest railway lines in the world.

The train's itineraries include one- or two-day excursions between Cusco, Lake Titicaca, and Arequipa. During the journey, passengers discover the region's extraordinary sites—ancient Inca cities, vast mountain valleys, and spectacular Andean landscapes.

The Belmond Andean Explorer is the perfect example of luxury rail travel in South America, combining elegance, comfort and the opportunity to admire some of the most beautiful views in Peru.

Belmond Andean Explorer Train Cabins and Interiors

The hand-painted train carriages house elegant interiors finished in wood, leather, and natural stone. The interior design features motifs inspired by Peruvian culture and traditional alpaca fabrics.

Each cabin is designed to provide maximum comfort during high-altitude travel. All cabins are equipped with a private bathroom, air conditioning, and an oxygen system, which enhances comfort during travel even at an altitude of approximately 4000 meters above sea level.

The train can carry a maximum of 48 passengers and offers 24 cabins in several categories:

Deluxe – 2 spacious cabins with a double bed and a 13,1 m² wardrobe
Junior Double – 6 cabins with a double bed and a wardrobe of 13,1 m²
Twin – 11 cabins with two beds, 7,4 m²
Bunk Bed – 5 cabins with bunk beds, 5,5 m² each

All cabins offer elegant finishes and a cozy space to relax while traveling through the Andes.

Attractions and dining on board the Belmond Andean Explorer

The train features two dining cars – Llama and Muña – serving Peruvian-inspired dishes. The menu was created by renowned chef Diego Muñoz, one of Peru's ambassadors for modern gastronomy.

Dishes are prepared with local produce from the Andes region and combine traditional flavors with a modern approach to cuisine.

Passengers can also enjoy numerous communal spaces. These include a piano lounge with a bar, an observation car, a library, and a boutique.

Since 2018, the train has also had a spa car offering relaxing treatments during the journey through the mountains.

The Belmond Andean Explorer offers 24-hour steward service and creates a unique train journey through some of South America's most beautiful landscapes. For many travelers, this is one of the most unique experiences a trip to Peru can offer.
