Modern trips to Antarctica are possible thanks to the Antarctica21 company established in Punta Arenas in Chile, promoting itself as pioneers of expeditions to the White Continent. Antarctica21 is the best choice for boutique cruises to Antarctica for those looking for excellent service, interesting trips and extreme experiences. The company was established in 2003 and consists of enthusiasts of extraordinary travels, breathtaking nature and, above all... cold. Although Antarctica has one of the harshest climates in the world, it delights with its uniqueness, which cannot be shown in photos or films. Expeditions to Antarctica mean endless spaces, incredibly beautiful landscapes, unusual colors of snow and proximity to wild animals. Boutique cruises to Antarctica on board the most luxurious Antarctica21 ships are a guarantee of an unforgettable journey to one of the most fascinating places on our planet.

Expedition ships accommodate a maximum of 73 passengers. This means both disembarkation and disembarkation are faster and smoother. Antarctica21's ships are more like private yachts than large passenger ships. They offer direct access to areas along the coast of Antarctica that larger ships cannot reach. Thanks to many years of experience and work, the team has managed to build a solid infrastructure and an extensive network of partners, which makes the expedition to Antarctica much easier and more effective to organize. Unlike some companies, Antarctica21 offers passengers a direct flight to and from Antarctica. For passengers, this means fewer or no weather-related delays. Each trip to Antarctica with Antarctica21 includes a team of at least 12 experienced polar guides with excellent knowledge of the region's unique geography, history, ecology and local fauna and flora.

Every day (depending on the weather), smaller boat trips from the ship are scheduled to explore the local bays and canals. With wildlife always a highlight of an expedition, passengers will visit penguin colonies, spot humpback and minke whales, and go in search of various species of southern fur seals, including the elusive leopard seal. Listening to the cracking and crumbling of icebergs and watching penguins swing on the beach will become everyday entertainment, while kayaking and snowshoeing will be optional activities available on selected cruises (for an additional fee).

Antarctica21 has a boutique cruise ship, Magellan Explorer, in its fleet. Put into operation in 2019, it can accommodate up to 73 passengers, with a professional fitness center, a glass observatory, a sauna, a library and even a health center, characterized by modern interior design and innovative technologies.

In addition, Antarctica21 uses three similar aircraft to conduct flights: BAE 146-200, AVRO RJ 85 and AVRO RJ 100. These aircraft were manufactured in Great Britain by British Aerospace (which later became part of BAE Systems). They are operated by Aerovías DAP, which has over 25 years of experience in Patagonia and Antarctica.

The average temperature in Antarctica during the austral summer is around 0°C, although sometimes it may seem lower due to the wind. For this reason, it is best to equip yourself with several layers of light, warm clothing. Suggested clothing for Antarctica is very similar to that recommended for ski trips: thermal underwear, a pair of warm and moisture-wicking clothes, including a windproof and waterproof jacket, plus trousers as an outer layer. You will also need a hat, scarf, insulated, waterproof gloves and sunglasses with high UV protection. Rubber-soled shoes are also recommended for walking on the outside deck.

Examples of destinations Antarctica21 undertakes include boutique expeditions to Antarctica, the South Shetland Islands, expeditions to Cape Horn, the Falkland Islands and South Georgia. Journeys start in Chile or Argentina. The escapades last between 6 and 17 days (5 and 16 nights). Prices for the six-day trip start at around $5 and go up to around $000 for 35 action-packed days.
