Haumana Cruises: Poerava Cruise from Raiatea Taha'a to Bora Bora in 4 Days

Trip plan:

1 Thursday – Raiatea – Taha'a

At 14.00 p.m. on Thursday, guests are invited to board the luxury yacht Haumana in Uturoa on Ra'iātea

The exclusive cruise begins by sailing north into the atoll waters around Taha

Dropping anchor at the islet of Motu Pufea and welcome dinner on board the yacht

If guests arrive at Raitea sufficiently in advance, we recommend that they visit this extraordinary island, which was the heart and source of the migration of Polynesian peoples across Oceania. In the Tahitian language, Ra'iātea means illuminated sky, its traditional name is Havai'i - the homeland of the Māori people. It was the heart of ancient Polynesia and it was here that the organized expeditions that colonized Hawaii, New Zealand (Aotearoa) and other parts of eastern Polynesia began. On the south-eastern shore there is the historic cultural center of Taputapuātea marae, founded around 1000 AD, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Taputapuātea lies at the heart of the Polynesian Triangle - a vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean covered with scattered islands - the last part of Earth to be settled by humans. Taputapuātea marea was the center of this world. The marae is located between water and land, at the tip of a peninsula jutting into the lagoon surrounding the island of Ra'iātea. Taputapuātea marae was dedicated to the god 'Oro in the place where the world of the living (Te Ao) met the world of gods and ancestors (Te Po). Marae Taputapuātea also expressed political power and inter-tribal relations. The rise of Taputapuātea among the marae on Raiatea and throughout the region was associated with the line of Tamatoa ari'i chieftains and the expansion of their power. Taputapuātea was the center of a political alliance that united most of Polynesia. The alliance was sustained by regular gatherings of chiefs, warriors, and priests who came from other islands to meet at Taputapuātea. The construction of boats with outboard fins and the extraordinary skills of ocean navigation were crucial to creating and maintaining this web of relationships.

At 14.00 p.m., we invite guests aboard the luxurious Humana catamaran, where they will be welcomed by the native Polynesian crew with music played on the ukulele and necklaces made of lei flowers. After boarding, we set off on the turquoise waters of the atoll north of Taha'a island. Later we will sail slightly south, finally anchoring at the islet of Motu Pufea, where we will be served a hot dinner.

After breakfast aboard the luxurious Haumana yacht, guests have the opportunity to disembark on the island of Taha'a, part of the western Leeward Islands group of French Polynesia. This small island with an area of 90 square kilometers is surrounded by the same coral reef as the island of Ra'iātea, located slightly to the south. After breakfast, the yacht enters the port of Vaitepe, where our cruise ends at 10.00. The guests go down to the shore of the island, which in the local dialect was called "Pora pora mai te pora", meaning "created by the gods". Bora Bora is actually not one island, but a group of them with a total area of approximately 30 square kilometers, belonging to the Leeward Islands of the archipelago of the Islands of the Society of French Polynesia. It is situated 230 km north-west of Papeete in Tahiti.
