Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge

An exclusive facility that delights with a view from an altitude of 2161 m above sea level of the famous Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, protected within the national park, which is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The most impressive attractions are the lush forests covering the nearby slopes, the majestic volcanic Virunga mountain range and the Great Western Rift Valley. Thanks to its location, the facility is free from mosquitoes. It is also environmentally friendly, as it is 1 of 2 in the country that pursues a carbon neutrality strategy. Electricity is produced by solar cells and water is collected during green season rains. The facility guarantees both the peace of a rainforest and the atmosphere of a mountain cottage. Each luxurious room has a unique decor, and the restaurant serves home-made specialties. The main attraction are local trips, especially those in the footsteps of gorillas living in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. They constitute half of the entire population of endangered mountain gorillas. It is also recommended to visit local communities, see their markets, coffee and tea plantations and schools. Both the Bwindi forest and nearby Nombe and Buniga are great places for ornithology enthusiasts. There are approximately 350 species here, 23 of which are endemic. An interesting experience is meeting the Batwa tribe, which is one of the oldest in Equatorial Africa. This hunter-gatherer people originally inhabited the Bwindi forest. It is also worth sailing on Lake Mutanda in a traditional log canoe to fully appreciate the amazing landscapes of the area.
