What are the biggest attractions in Zambia?

Zambia is one of the most beautiful countries in Southern Africa, with whose stunning and diverse nature tourists fall in love with at first sight. Most travelers come here on holiday to see perhaps the most famous cascades in the world - Victoria Falls. However, this part of Africa hides many other wonderful places in the bosom of nature. What are the biggest attractions in Zambia?

Zambia waterfalls, including one of the seven wonders of the world

Victoria Falls, considered one of the seven wonders of the world, was discovered by Europeans in the mid-19th century. Before they reached African lands, the indigenous people of the Kololo tribe called the cascades Smoke-of-the-Smoke, meaning "the fog that thunders." At the end of the 100th century, Victoria Falls National Park was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Cascades are located on the Zambezi River, which is the natural border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. They are over 2 meters high and almost XNUMX kilometers wide! Recurrent droughts in South Africa have significantly reduced the amount of water flowing through the falls in recent decades. Despite everything, their view still takes the breath away of every tourist who goes on a trip here.

There are several ways to admire the impressive Victoria Falls, not only by contemplating their beauty from various viewpoints. People who prefer more luxurious and exclusive forms of sightseeing can organize a boat cruise or a helicopter flight to admire the cascades from a bird's eye view. Adrenaline seekers, on the other hand, will not miss the opportunity to bungee jump in such a unique place. When spending your holiday in Zambia, it is also worth seeing its other waterfalls, for example the 221-meter Colombo (the second highest African cascade).

Safari in one of the greatest national parks in Africa

South Luangwa National Park is one of the few such places on the map of Africa. Every tourist who dreams of admiring all the most famous animals inhabiting the Dark Continent should plan a holiday in Zambia with a mandatory safari in this area of the Luangwa River. You can see here, among others, herds of African elephants over the floodplains, impalas and buffaloes running on the plains, and leopards and lions hunting them. Other animals living in the park include giraffes, hyenas, and over 400 different species of birds. Other Zambian national parks worth visiting include:

  • Lower Zambezi National Park - its biggest attraction is the opportunity to admire hippos and elephants from the deck of a boat during a cruise on the Zambezi River,
  • Kafue National Park - it is home to the most antelopes in all of Africa and is one of the largest national parks in the world (with an area of almost 22,5 thousand km²).

Visiting the capital and fishing in the lakes

Organizing a safari and admiring African fauna are not the only ways to spend your vacation in Zambia. Another interesting idea is a trip to the capital of the country. In Lusaka you can visit several interesting museums, a mosque and a cathedral, as well as go to markets with local handicrafts and food. Moreover, Zambia is a land of lakes - tourists contemplate the beauty and vastness of Tanganyika, the longest freshwater lake in the world, and keen anglers go to Kariba, where numerous specimens await them to catch. Apart from fish, hippos and Nile crocodiles live there, among others. Fans of extreme experiences can, in turn, go on a rafting trip on the Zambezi River.

Zambia is a country with such a diversity of nature and so many attractions that it is worth coming here as part of a trip or a tailor-made trip. This form of trip will allow everyone to tailor the sightseeing program and type of activity to their needs and interests. It is best to plan a holiday in this region of Africa between April and September.
