Expeditions to Peru, or luxury in the Inca Empire.

We invite all adventurous people to a luxurious expedition in the footsteps of the Inca. Peru is a huge country, almost four times the size of Poland, which has been attracting travelers from all over the world for years. Like most South American countries, thanks to its surface area and diverse topography, it provides visitors with a wealth of landscapes, ranging from the desert coast washed by the waters of the Pacific Ocean, through the snow-capped peaks of the Andes, the longest mountain range in the world, to the Amazon Lowland, which is the richest species in the world. area on our planet. Peru also offers a whole range of activities that make it impossible to get bored. Observing a herd of seals and sea lions during a cruise around Islas Ballesta, sanboarding in the Huacachina oasis, a plane flight over the Nazca Lines, exploring the ruins of Inca cities, a ship cruise in the Amazon in search of Indian tribes and wild animals, high-mountain trekking or exploring the secrets of natural medicine with a local shaman these are just a few of the most popular proposals. Peru is also a safe country, with a diverse hotel base, including several boutique hotels that are annually included in rankings describing the best places of this type in the world. Due to the extensive network of air connections, you can easily see its most important attractions during a two-week vacation. Taking the above into account, Peru is a great choice for people who want to start their adventure with South America or deepen their knowledge about this amazing continent.

What is worth seeing in Peru?

Due to the topography, Peru can be divided into three main climatic and tourist regions.

The first one is Costa, i.e. desert areas, washed mainly by the cold waters of the Pacific Ocean. This is where Lima is located, the capital of the country, famous for its delicious cuisine, often considered the best in the world. It is worth going to the restaurants we recommend and see for yourself: how they feed in Lima. Other attractions of this region include Islas Ballestas, islands called the "Little Galapagos" because of the colonies of seals and sea lions, as well as the Nazca plateau, famous for its system of lines and geometric figures often representing animals, perfectly visible from a helicopter or light plane. The Nazca Lines are a cultural work of the same name.

The second region is Sierra, which includes the Andes and the plateaus that cut through the cordilleras. The country's most famous attractions are located here: Cuzco, the former capital of the Inca Empire, colonial Arequipa, the Colca Canyon, one of the deepest in the world, and Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. The last sentence is devoted to Machu Picchu, the greatest attraction of Peru, and perhaps the whole of South America, which in 2007 was recognized as one of the seven wonders of the world.

The third region is Jungle. It covers the Amazon Basin and the Andes foothills. Much of the famous Amazon rainforest is located in Peru. This is the richest species area on our planet. The most popular species found in the Amazon include: capybaras, toucans, various types of parrots, caimans, anacondas, and cute sloths. However, the Amazon is not only about animals, but also about tribes that until recently had no contact with civilization. Important points on the Amazon map are the cities of Iquitos and Puerto Maldonado, where most expeditions into the jungle begin. Moreover, in the town of Nauta, near Iquitos, cruises on the Amazon River and its basin take place on luxury ships - Zafiro and Delfin.

Peru's colonial heritage

Over the years of ruling the lands taken from the hands of the Incas, the Spaniards built many buildings that still determine the appearance of Peruvian cities. In Lima, you cannot miss Plaza de Armas, the city's main square with the characteristic cathedral. It was built in 1535 on the orders of Francisco Pizarro, the conquistador and founder of the city. His remains were buried in one of the cathedral chapels.

Arequipa is full of wonderful colonial monuments, a city located in the shadow of three majestic volcanoes - Misti, Chachani and Pichu Pichu. There is a wonderful cathedral from the 17th century, with the largest organ in South America, the Yanahuara district, with residential buildings and churches from the Spanish times, but the greatest treasure of Arequipa is the monastery of Santa Catalina. Built in the 16th century, it welcomed and educated girls of high birth. Today it is a great attraction of the city, and its brick and blue walls hide many fascinating stories.

Cusco, the former capital of the Inca Empire, is one great colonial monument, which can probably justify the enormous interest it arouses in tourists coming to Peru. City life flourishes around the giant Main Square, whose main element is the monumental cathedral. Walking along the cobbled streets, surrounded by stone walls of houses and temples that are hundreds of years old, you can let your imagination run wild and imagine what this city looked like during the rule of the Spanish, but also earlier, when it was ruled by the Incas. When in Cusco, it is worth sitting on the terrace of one of the excellent cafes and sipping pisco or tea with coca, feasting your eyes on the everyday life of the city, the multitude of colors and aromas.
