Argentina's not-so-poor relative – a luxurious trip to Uruguay.

The most urbanized country in South America, which has been called in the past The Switzerland of America, precisely because of its economic stability and the wealth of society. Uruguay appears more and more often in our travel plans every year, mainly due to its Latin character combined with safety, holiday resorts, interesting monuments, as well as the proximity of the most famous countries in the region, especially Brazil and Argentina. You won't see nature here in such a spectacular way as, for example, in Chile or Peru, but it is worth visiting this country, if only to drink wine by the Rio de la Plata, walk through the streets of colonial towns or simply indulge in madness in the waters of the Atlantic.

What is worth seeing in Uruguay

You definitely can't miss the country's capital. Montevideo is a modern metropolis that, despite the passage of time, has not lost its colonial character. The city is the seat of numerous universities, museums and art galleries. EL Cordon, the center of Montevideo, is famous for its green avenues, promenades, restaurants and entertainment venues. This is where the city's cultural life is concentrated. It is also worth taking a walk along the boulevard in the Pocitos district, connecting the most important beaches in Montevideo. Fans of Latin rhythms should go to one of the numerous discos located in this part of the city.

Outside the capital must see is Colonia del Sacramento. The city, founded by the Portuguese in the 17th century, has preserved a magnificent old town, inscribed as the first place in Uruguay on the UUNESCO World Heritage List. Walking along the cobbled streets, you can enjoy the view of La Plata, one of the most powerful estuaries in the world, formed by the junction of the Parana and Uruguay rivers. It is worth noting that in the Colonia region, which takes its name from the city described above, there are many beautifully situated vineyards. Wines from Uruguay may not be as popular as those produced in neighboring Argentina, but we guarantee that their depth and originality will attract the attention of lovers of the wine.

The last place that every tourist coming to Uruguay should include in his sightseeing plan is Punta del Este, a seaside resort that attracts more and more people every year. Wide sandy beaches, opportunities to practice water sports, especially surfing, as well as high-class accommodation facilities mean that not only locals choose Punta del Este as their holiday destination.
