It is the second largest island in the Cyclades archipelago with a rich history that began about 3 years ago. The island's name comes from the leader Paros, who appeared with his people, fleeing from ancient Arcadia in the first millennium.

What are the biggest tourist attractions in Paros?

Paros is an island with a rich history and lush nature, so its offer of local attractions and entertainment is large and everyone should find something for themselves. Undoubtedly, the main advantage of the island are its wonderful beaches, washed by the crystal clear waters of the Aegean Sea, marked with the Blue Flag. The most famous and beautiful beaches include Kolimbithres in Naoussa Bay, surrounded by high, unusually shaped cliffs, and Chrisi Akti and Tserdakia. For windsurfing, one of the best beaches will be Molos Beach, which is located in a small bay near the town of Marmari.

In the area around Piso Livadi there are the beaches of Piso Livadi, Logaras and Pounda Beach. Here, everyone can taste excellent Greek cuisine in small, family restaurants handed down from generation to generation. More intimate and quiet beaches can be found on the southern coast of the island.

We can see a large part of the monuments in the city of Parikia, which is the capital of the island of Paros. The main attractions of the island include the Ekatontapiliani Church (Ekatontapiliani - Church of the Hundred Doors), located in the western part of the city - it is the oldest active church in Greece and an important Byzantine monument. Its official name is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin. The church was founded by Saint. Helena, mother of Constantine - the first Christian emperor of Byzantium.

Another interesting monument may be the church of St. Constantine with a unique wooden iconostasis. In addition to numerous churches, we can also visit the Archaeological Museum, which houses archaeological finds from the Neolithic to the Roman era, the Byzantine Museum, Venetian fortresses, the ruins of the Temple of Demeter, and the Thapsana Monastery.

It is also worth visiting nearby villages where we can admire fabulous houses with blue shutters.

One of the most frequently visited places is the village of Lefkes, located at the highest point of the island, built in the form of an amphitheater. The houses and churches in this village were built in the 3th–3,5th centuries. Paros is the birthplace of the famous marble, which is still considered the most beautiful in the world. Its advantage is transparency: marble is a snow-white or pink-colored stone of high purity without veins, transmitting light into the interior by XNUMX-XNUMX cm, which creates an amazing effect of "reviving" the sculpture. The famous masterpieces of Praxiteles and Phidias were created from this marble. Today, the quarries where Paros marble was mined have been preserved. You can see not only tunnels and caves, but also the remains of this marble, scattered around the entire perimeter of the quarries. Another amazing place worth visiting is the "Valley of the Butterflies".
