The Transcantábrico Grand Luxury

In May 2011, Spanish railways launched a new, luxurious journey - Gran Lujo. The journey itself aboard El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo is an extraordinary experience, a journey back in time to the 20s, when the legendary Pullman carriages - today the lounges of this luxurious train - first hit the tracks.

The compartment cars and lounges of El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo are an authentic five-star hotel on rails, equipped with all the features and amenities that the most demanding travelers can expect. The train that brings to life the nostalgia and charm of luxury express trains from the early 20th century, inspired by memorable novels and films, houses the latest technology of the 21st century.

Breakfasts and most dinners are served on the train, and for most lunches we invite guests to selected, best local restaurants. This allows you to experience regional cuisine, from the fish specialties of Spanish Galicia to the meat dishes of the Basque country and León. Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country and Castile and León are famous for the best cuisines in Spain. The local cheeses, sausages, meats, vegetables and seafood are famous. The menu is complemented by local table wines that harmoniously match each meal. Coffee and liqueurs are also included.

El Transcantabrico Gran Lujo invites guests to 4 elegant salons from the 20s, where you can feel the extraordinary atmosphere of those times. The elegant dining car serves delicious a'la carte and buffet breakfasts, and - if lunch and dinner are served on board that day - delicious dishes prepared by our chef. The bar car is open all the time - guests can sit comfortably here, enjoy a quiet drink and admire the passing landscapes. Additionally, there is a Tea Room car, an observation car and a small nightclub where lively entertainment is provided every evening until the early morning hours. The train also has a library with newspapers and magazines; as well as DVD rental.

The lounges have been designed for relaxation and unrestrained pleasure in a charming atmosphere where it is easy to make new friends. After dinner, guests are invited to an evening full of entertainment. Every evening is a night party, with a variety of live performances. However, thanks to the size of the train, this will not affect the comfort of those travelers who prefer to retire to their compartment earlier. Travelers can also enjoy a quiet drink in one of the other lounges or take a stroll around the city where the train stops for the night.

All compartments of El Transcantabrico Gran Lujo are Preferente class - each compartment occupies half of the carriage.
