Umbria

Umbria is one of the most visited regions in Italy. It is called "green lung". Holiday from Umbria are certainly unforgettable. What the biggest attractions waiting for tourists in this region of Italy?

Green landscapes and picturesque towns

Why Umbria? Its landscapes delight with lush greenery. It is a highly mountainous region, with only a few percent of lowland areas. Its main advantage is beautiful views, forests and olive groves.

Umbria is a quiet, idyllic region. The picturesque towns look as if nothing has changed since the Middle Ages. Narrow, winding streets lead along brick buildings and churches. It's the perfect place to relax.

Gubbio

Why is it worth going to Gubbio? Not everyone knows that it is the prototype of a popular series in Poland Father Matthew was filmed in one of the towns in Umbria, specifically in Gubbio. The best time to go to Gubbio is May. Then a festival is celebrated here in honor of Saint Ubdald. It is not only a religious practice, but also, above all, a tradition of the entire community. The highlight is the evening run, during which participants carry 4.5-meter-high wooden columns resembling candles.

Assisi

Assisi is probably the most popular city in Umbria. Practically hidden on the slopes of Mount Subasio, it delights with its wonderful architecture. The most famous building is the Church of Saint Francis. Inside you can admire beautiful frescoes depicting the life of the saint, an animal lover.

It is impossible not to be amazed by the beauty of the white stone streets. The town can be stunning, especially at sunset.

Orivieto

Orivieto is a bit off the beaten path in Umbria, but is close to the highway connecting Rome and Florence. The town is located on the top of a volcanic hill. We will come across two landmarks characteristic of this place: the Cathedral of the Ascension and the Corporal Chapels, which is associated with the celebration of Corpus Christi and concerns events that have a decisive impact on including this holiday in the liturgical calendar.

The second very popular attraction of the town is Saint Patrick's Well, which has stairs leading to its very bottom. There are caves and tunnels beneath the city, once used as a place to store wine and during World War II as bomb shelters.

Perugia

Perugia is actually two cities, above ground and underground. Tourists have the opportunity to walk through several streets of the underground city that existed here during the Etruscan times.

Perugia produces chocolate called Perugina. One of the most popular characters are tablets called Bacci, which means kiss. A chocolate festival is organized here every year.

For tourists, it is easier to explore the city by dividing the city into zones marked with the following colors: white, blue, red, yellow and green. There are arrows in the same colors on the sidewalks, which allows you to precisely plan your route.

Why Umbria?

Umbria, even though it has no access to the sea, offers tourists a lot. It is culturally and historically rich. Additionally, it delights with beautiful landscapes, rich greenery and picturesque towns. It is also worth knowing that the best truffles, both black and white, come from Umbria.

Even though it's not the most popular region in Italy, Umbria is undoubtedly worth seeing. However, this is not a good place for holidays with children, due to the terrain and type of attractions.
