Cuba – a bit about history

Conquered by Spanish colonists as one of the first Caribbean islands, it has not been spared by history during the hundreds of years of its existence. Difficult history with heavy consequences, the effects of which are still felt today, have made Cuba a unique country. Slavery, which appeared with the arrival of the Spanish in the Caribbean, brought Cuba the result of what we today call a cultural mixture. Creoles, mestizos and mulattoes appeared, and with them the famous one santeria, that is, a combination of the Christian religion with African beliefs, including local Indian beliefs. The difficult and bloody fight for Cuba's independence and the abolition of slavery bore fruit only at the beginning of the 20th century, but it was not possible to enjoy it for a long time, because shortly after that American troops entered the island, wanting to take it into their territory, so as happened with Puerto Rico. However, the island was never taken over by the US due to the country's excessive debts. Later, as we know from history lessons, the (almost) immortal Fidel Castro appeared with his communism, and his cruel rule caused the economy to stagnate along with the development of the country. Cuba is still struggling with the effects of these governments to this day.

Cuba – a paradise in the Caribbean?

Let's immerse ourselves in our own thoughts for a moment and ask ourselves: what do we associate Cuba with? Probably the first things that come to mind are: rum, cigars, Ernest Hemingway, old cars and Fidel Castro. But why didn't we think that in Cuba we will also find paradise beaches, wonderful luxury hotels and the guarantee of a truly exclusive holiday?

Cuba is located in the Caribbean Sea, surrounded by its waters, less than 200 km to the border with the United States, and only 250 km to Mexico from the north-west. The official language of Cuba is Spanish, but hotel staff communicate in English. It is worth knowing that Cuba has two currencies, the Cuban peso (CUP) and the convertible peso (CUC), and both of these currencies can only be exchanged on the island. The difference is that the cubano peso is about 25 times cheaper than the convertible peso.

Cuba – practical information

Due to the fact that Cuba is located in the humid equatorial and subequatorial climate zone, the weather in Cuba does not leave much to be desired. It is warm or hot all year round, and Cubans do not know the word "heating". However, you need to watch out for cyclones and hurricanes that occur here from August to October. If you are wondering when to go to Cuba, the best months are November-March, then there is a dry season on the island, which guarantees great weather. The time difference in Cuba is 6 hours compared to Poland. If you are wondering how to get to Cuba, we offer charter connections from selected Polish cities.

It is worth remembering that what makes Cuba unique is that time stood still several dozen years ago and everyone in the world noticed it, except... the Cubans themselves. It is one of the few "retro" countries in the world where Western civilization has not yet arrived, and people live exactly the same as they did a few decades earlier, drinking mojitos after work with their families, playing dominoes, swinging in hammocks, smoking the famous Cuban cigars, and Cubans received kindness and love for other people with their mother's milk.
