Greenland – the largest island in the world

Greenland is a specific place not only because of its location, but above all because of its unique character. It is the largest island in the world that is not a separate continent. Although geographically it belongs to North America, it is an autonomous territory dependent on Denmark, which means politically - part of Europe. The island is the object of interest of many scientists around the world. Some believe that under its thick icy coating there may be many secrets hiding thousands of years ago.

Greenland is a unique and unique region on the entire globe. Even though translated into Polish, Greenland is a green land, almost all of it is covered with ice, and transport is mainly by sea, because the country does not have a widely developed road network. It is estimated that the possible melting of Greenland's glaciers could raise the water level around the globe by approximately 7 meters.

The polar climate in Greenland means that average temperatures in the warmest months in the south of the island are only about 10 degrees Celsius. In turn, the further north you go, the colder it gets and the climate changes to a harsher, subpolar one. The record temperature even reached over -70 degrees Celsius. Unfortunately, due to global warming, the island is constantly getting smaller every year.

The most interesting attractions in Greenland

In winter we can admire the stunning northern lights in the sky, and in summer we can experience white nights. In the north-eastern part of the island there is the largest national park in the world - Greenland National Park, which covers an area more than three times the size of Poland and is included in the UNESCO list of biosphere reserves. The island is home to many species of polar animals. When going on a Greenland safari, you are very likely to encounter bears, wolves, foxes and Arctic hares, as well as reindeer, Arctic musk oxen, walruses and much, much more.

A particularly worthwhile experience is a cruise through the Arctic waters surrounding Greenland. Densely inhabited by many species of fish and whales, they are the perfect place to fulfill your dream of seeing these amazing animals. From the deck of the boat you will also have the opportunity to admire majestic icebergs, fjord coasts and vast glaciers.
