Time + Tide Chongwe consists of three distinct areas: Chongwe Camp, Chongwe Suites, and Chongwe House. Chongwe Camp is the most classic part of the camp, offering eight safari tents nestled along the river. It's the perfect option for those who want to get close to nature and experience a traditional Zambian safari without sacrificing comfort. The tents feature private bathrooms and terraces overlooking the river, where elephants, hippos, and other wildlife are often spotted.
Chongwe Suites offers a more luxurious and spacious option. Two suites, offering a total of three bedrooms, are designed for maximum privacy and views of the Zambezi River. They are a popular choice for couples planning a honeymoon or romantic safari, as each suite offers ample space, elegant interiors, and a unique natural setting.
Chongwe House is a private safari villa, perfect for a family safari with children, a family getaway, or a stay with friends. The house features multiple bedrooms, a private pool, a dedicated staff, and a safari guide. Guests at Chongwe House enjoy complete privacy and a flexible daily schedule, especially important for family travel.
Time + Tide Chongwe operates seasonally, typically from April or May to November, the dry season. This is the best time to go on a safari in Lower Zambezi National Park, when animals gather along the river and weather conditions are ideal for wildlife viewing.
Elephants, buffalo, hippos, and crocodiles, as well as lions and leopards, are regularly spotted in the area surrounding the lodge. The region is also renowned for its excellent birdwatching. Safaris in Chongwe are incredibly diverse, offering not only classic off-road driving but also walking safaris, boat cruises, kayaking safaris, and fishing on the Zambezi River.
Getting to Time + Tide Chongwe is relatively straightforward. First, fly to Lusaka, Zambia's capital. You can then take a short charter flight to the Lower Zambezi airstrip or a transfer by 4x4, which takes about four hours. In some cases, the final leg of the journey is by boat on the Zambezi River, providing a unique start to your safari.
The Chongwe camping season runs from April 1st to mid-November.
