Zanzibar – an island of spices and boutique hotels

Located off the coast of Tanzania, in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, Zanzibar is a destination worth considering for holiday in the 2021 season. The beautiful island attracts crowds of tourists every year! This is an island for those who love the sun, wildlife, reef diving and African atmosphere with a hint of history. Zanzibar consists of two main islands - Unguja and Pemba and 51 smaller islets.

Scented of vanilla and cloves Zanzibar, located off the coast of East Africa, is one of the most appreciated places for exotic holidays. Travelers appreciate the island for its pleasant tropical climate, crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean, and wonderful colorful coral reefs. Atmospheric, boutique-style hotels are the proverbial "cherry on the cake". The crystalline ocean waters washing over the white beaches hide delicious fish, lobsters and seafood in their depths, and the lush gardens are full of fragrant flowers and tasty, sweet fruits, which are served every day on the breakfast table.

Private Mnemba Island

Zanzibar is a mecca for scuba diving enthusiasts. One of the best hotels for enthusiasts of this sport, surrounded by beautiful reefs, is incredibly intimate, located on a private island Mnemba Island. It is located a short distance from the north-eastern coast of Zanzibar. Only hotel guests and employees of the prestigious African &Beyond resort located there are allowed to climb Mnemba. The island concept is unique. The facility consists of only 10 bungalows perfectly blended into the surrounding nature. This makes them invisible from the outside. The houses were built of wood, reef stone and palm fronds were used for covering. The furnishings are stylish but simple and comfortable with natural materials such as hand-woven mats from local plants. The place offers privacy, peace and quiet and the so-called "barefoot luxury". The island can accommodate a maximum of 20 guests at a time. There is an option to reserve Mnemba Island exclusively. This is an ideal option for a group of friends or a luxurious integration trip.

Pristine Aatol Mnemba surrounding the island is under strict protection, and fishing in this area is prohibited. This makes it one of the leading snorkeling and diving sites in the Zanzibar area. It offers multi-colored schools of fish, sea turtles, three species of dolphins, as well as sharks, lionfish, moray eels, stonefish and beautiful starfish. The underwater life of this reservoir is incredibly diverse, and the well-preserved reefs delight with their fanciful formations and colors. They are home to numerous marine creatures and rare snails, including the Spanish dancer.

Attractions and sightseeing in Zanzibar

It is worth starting every holiday in Zanzibar with a visit to the historic capital of the island. Stone Town, i.e. the Stone City, which was included on the UNESCO heritage list. The most important monuments worth seeing are: House of Wonders, i.e. the House of Miracles, the Old Fort, the Sultan Museum and the house where Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of Queen, was born. Particularly noteworthy is the night food bazaar in the Forodhani gardens, where you can taste seafood and numerous local specialties. It is worth going to Prisoner Island to learn about its dark history of slavery. One of the greatest attractions of Stone Town are the intricately carved doors and entrance gates of houses, which were once an indicator and measure of the wealth of its inhabitants. Over the centuries, Stone Town was home to Indian, Persian, Arab, African and European traders and merchants.

When in Zanzibar, you must go to: spice plantation. During the trip, you will see how spices grow, including black and white pepper, cardamom, ginger and cloves. This will be an opportunity to discover their true aroma and taste! For those interested, we recommend a cooking lesson of fragrant Zanzibar dishes at the home of a local hostess. It is thanks to spices that Zanzibar gained its second name: the Island of Flavors.

But it is not everything…

Our next suggestion is a trip to Josani Forest and meeting with an endemic species of Red Colobus monkeys with a lush mane and a red back. This tropical rainforest is an attraction in itself. It is home to huge ficus trees, baobab trees, as well as colorful birds and butterflies. Red Colobus monkeys (red colobus monkeys), found only in Zanzibar, and the more timid blue monkeys are the main attractions of Josani.

To briefly summarize this piece of paradise - Zanzibar is an African fusion of scents, colors and flavors that are worth experiencing in person!

Safari in Kenya or Tanzania and relaxation in Zanzibar

This is a popular African holiday duo. Travelers love the combination of wildlife and bush adventure with sunbathing or water activities. Trips to National Parks - Masai Mara and Amboseli in Kenya and the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania with accommodation in exclusive hotels and lodges are the adventure of a lifetime. Individually prepared sightseeing tours, tailored to your interests, are a guarantee of a successful holiday in Africa.

If you are still hesitant, grab a solid dose of positive energy. Water sports enthusiasts will be delighted! Enjoy watching 🙂
