Wimbledon is the short name of the English tennis championship played since 1877 on the grass courts of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in south London.
It is included in the so-called The Grand Slam, i.e. the four most important tennis tournaments in the world, and unofficially Wimbledon is considered the most prestigious of the four. That's why every year the elite of world tennis come here to fight for fame and huge money at the turn of June and July.
